"Seas" the Day

Today was our first full day at sea. I woke up and started my day almost getting blown off the jogging track by the wind. However, I continued to jog for a while because I felt super fast passing all the old timers, which is a rare occasion.

Following our workouts we went to stuff ourselves with food, which I’m beginning to learn is the norm on this cruise. They had everything you can imagine for breakfast, but I stuck with the classic— eggs, bacon, sausage, and a croissant. We then made our way to the room to change into our bathing suits, which was not a pretty sight right after we ate, but we had our eyes on that hot tub. I don’t know if it was the warm bubbly water or the slight rocking of the ship, but I knew a nap was in the near future. Since it was very windy out, we were in search of a chair outside to take a nap that had the least bit of wind and the most sun. We sure found one, and my skin regrets it. I am FRIED. I mean SEVERLY burnt. Ouch. We decided it was probably time to go inside at that point, so we made our way to a champagne art auction—my first one ever. I don’t know why but when I hear champagne art auction I think of high society old ladies gathering around sipping their champagne with their pinkies out and betting thousands of dollars on a questionable piece of art. I wasn’t too far off. There were both old men and women and they did bet a lot of money on art, but there were no pinkies out. Sigh. I do love art a lot and some of the works were fabulous don’t get me wrong, but we were really just there for the free champagne. The bartender poured the bubbly into glasses and left them on a tray on the bar for you to take one... or three...

We stayed for only part of the auction because bingo was about to begin. Yes, I do love bingo. No judgment. And you know what is even more exciting—I WON! Even though it was only $68 because it was the first bingo game, I was feeling good... So I thought I should bring my luck to the casino, but unfortunately the video poker machines were not on my side. I still ended in the positives though, so not too shabby.

We continued on our gaming streak, with a battle of the sexes game show. The girls were on one side of the room and the guys on the other to answer questions about the opposite sex. For example, the guys got a question that stated, what do you do to keep panty hose from ripping once a hole has formed?? Of course, I knew the answer to that one from ripping my panty hose in my strategic marketing class—clear nail polish! We got questions like what two football teams always play on New Years day? My lack of care for football made it a difficult question, but some of the other ladies on the team knew it.

We then made our way to another lounge for more trivia—this time visual trivia. It happened to be on world currencies. Ekk. The activities director, Jessica, would show a currency from one country, give a clue, and we would all write down our answers. My mom and I probably got about 4 out of 20, since they were from countries like Tanzania and Ukraine.

We decided it was time for a break from trivia, so we headed back to our cabin and got ready for our first evening chic night, also known as a formal night. Once fancied up, we made our way to the Trellis Restaurant, where we had the opportunity to pig out like usual. I had shrimp cocktail as an appetizer, a massive steak and mashed potatoes as an entrée, and crème Brule and chocolate ice cream for dessert. I mean why wouldn’t you indulge when it is included and you’re on vacation?

Speaking of indulging, we continued along that train and headed to the martini bar. We watched the bartender juggle and spin around multiple objects like a bottle of vodka, an ice-cube, and a shaker. It was very impressive. We then ordered a martini and headed to the theater. Tonight the show was called “iBroadway”, where dancers, singers, and acrobats on silks performed well-known Broadway songs. It really was a great performance!
